Christie Terra SDVoE technology ties it all together at Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center

Mitigate. Prepare. Respond. Recover.

Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Conroe, Texas is the central, mission-critical point for government officials and local agencies to analyze incoming data and manage response efforts to large scale events and disasters, such as hurricanes.

Challenge

A major technological overhaul at the EOC was desired to enable leaders, activated departments, and first responders to optimally collect, analyze and interpret data, respond to unfolding and rapidly changing events, and make decisions to protect life and property in the region.

Solution

Christie® Terra, formed the backbone of the solution. With Terra, a flexible SDVoE (Software Defined Video over Ethernet) -based solution, a signal can now be distributed to any of the displays on-site via 10G Ethernet. A host of display technology – including 12 Christie Extreme Series 55-inch LCD displays has also been installed throughout.

“Montgomery County wanted a very flexible space, and a system that provided scalability,” says Chris Lawson, regional vice president, Conference Technologies, Inc. “It was important for them to be able to add sources and displays, and push information to them in real time with low latency in any arrangement of video and data required. Choosing Terra enabled that. They previously had a fixed chassis system, meaning they were limited in their number of sources and where they could push that information. We added a lot more displays during the upgrade and Terra helped to deliver that flexibility.”

The primary EOC room now features a 12-channel video wall in a 2 by 6 array of Christie Extreme Series LCD displays, which replaced a 2 by 2 videowall. Flanking the adjacent walls are several Christie projectors. In addition, there are a several conference rooms, each with display technology ranging from a single display to four displays. The EOC also features a press area in a nearby building with a projector, four displays, podiums and microphones, allowing journalists to be briefed on the latest news.

Christie’s Terra solution allows distribution of any source from the EOC to any desired room and/or display.

Christie Terra enables the transport, switching, processing and control of audiovisual content, including 4K at 60Hz video formats, over 10G Ethernet networks. Built on standardized SDVoE technology, Christie Terra provides unprecedented performance capabilities including the delivery of uncompressed, zero-frame latency, artifact-free video over readily available and affordable 10G components. Based on off-the-shelf 10G Ethernet components, the Terra solution allows for the design of simple, secured, flflexible and highly scalable system architectures that offer the best performance and user experience over current approaches at a drastically lower total cost of ownership.
