Tracking Justin

I spent my days at ISE 2020 answering the question “Where’s Justin?”.  The president of the SDVoE Alliance is a tough man to keep track of. But from the trail of videos he left in his wake, it’s clear that he was all around the show floor, spreading “The Matrix Transformed” message of the alliance, talking about new educational initiatives, signing new members and participating in industry debates on important issue facing the pro AV community. Now we know!

Justin kicked off the SDVoE 20/20 line-up of in-booth education sessions bright and early on Day One. His engaging presentation, repeated throughout the show, highlighted SDVoE as the only interoperable standard that offers the flawless video quality and latency performance of a matrix switch, but with the flexibility and scalability of AV over IP.

On Tuesday, Justin signed Lightware Visual Engineering, a leading manufacturer of high-end signal management solutions, as a contributing member of the SDVoE Alliance, bringing the member count to 51.  He talked to Jason Tirado, president of Lightware, Inc.

Later in the show, Steve Samson from Lightware gave a talk in the SDVoE Alliance booth about two new solutions that benefit from SDVoE connectivity. The Taurus UCX Switcher for Huddle Spaces uses SDVoE extension to enable BYOD functionality. The MX2M Modular Matrix Switcher will soon feature SDVoE input and output cards to connect the matrix switch to the network. Learn more in Steve’s presentation “Connecting the Matrix Switch to SDVoE”, now available by signing up for a free account at SDVoE Academy.

Sara Abrons, executive editor of rAVe publications, teased Justin about the member-products display gallery in the alliance booth. We certainly didn’t have room for the over 200 interoperable products that constitute the SDVoE ecosystem, but we gave it a good shot.  And we introduced an online product catalog powered by AV-iQ to help website visitors learn more.

InAVate posed a provocative statement on ISEShow.TV, “AV loves proprietary protocols because you can’t make money with open standards”. Justin, Josh Rush of Audinate (and others) weighed in on this topic.

Doug Kuzma, director of product development at Black Box, and Gary Kayye of rAVe fame talked with Justin about the need for training around AV over IP and the plans Black Box, NETGEAR and the SDVoE Alliance have to deliver training around the world. Their discussion was informative, even though the live events were subsequently postponed indefinitely due to travel restrictions currently in place at many prospective attendees’ and educators’ companies.

Clive Couldwell, group editor of AV Magazine invited Justin to wrap up the week as part of a lively panel discussion on AV over IP at the ISE Main Stage. Other participants included Gabi Shriki from HDBaseT/Valens, Simon Truby of CBI plc and Mike Allan of Exterity.
