Icron Becomes a Contributing Member of the SDVoE Alliance

Long-time global leader in USB extension over IP networks recognized as supplier of choice for SDVoE-based products requiring USB capability

MONTREAL — April 19, 2018 — The SDVoE™ Alliance today announced that Icron Technologies Corporation, a leader in USB and video extension technology, has joined the alliance as a contributing member. Icron brings its patented ExtremeUSB® technology to the SDVoE ecosystem.

ExtremeUSB enables native USB 2.0 connections at 480Mbps data rates over CAT 5e/6/7 cabling, fiber optics or Local Area Network to extend well beyond the 5-meter cable distance limitation of standard USB. The ExtremeUSB suite of features includes transparent USB extension, true plug and play (no software drivers required) and compatibility with all major operating systems including Windows®, macOS™, Linux® and Chrome OS™.

“We are pleased to join the SDVoE Alliance as a contributing member,” said Glenn Antonelli, Director of Business Management at Icron Technologies. “Our ExtremeUSB extension technology is central to all SDVoE-based products that feature network USB extension and switching, making it easy for system designers to add extremely reliable USB 2.0 extension in their AV distribution and processing applications.”

“USB connectivity is ubiquitous in pro AV due to it’s flexibility and simplicity,” said Justin Kennington, president of the SDVoE Alliance. “Icron’s ExtremeUSB technology is widely recognized as the most broadly compatible and flexible way to extend USB signals across an IP network, enabling a broader range of applications. We are proud to welcome them as a contributing member of the SDVoE Alliance.”

All AV distribution and processing applications that demand zero-latency and uncompromised video can benefit from SDVoE technology, which provides an end-to-end hardware and software platform for AV extension, switching, processing and control through advanced chipset technology, common control APIs and interoperability. SDVoE network architectures are based on off-the-shelf Ethernet switches, thus offering substantial cost savings, greater system flexibility and scalability over traditional approaches such as point-to-point extension and circuit-based AV matrix switching.

About the SDVoE Alliance

SDVoE is an initialism for “Software Defined Video over Ethernet”. The SDVoE Alliance is a nonprofit consortium of technology providers collaborating to standardize the adoption of Ethernet to transport AV signals in professional AV environments, and to create an ecosystem around SDVoE technology allowing software to define AV applications. The alliance participates in tradeshows and conferences, publishes white papers and case studies and promotes SDVoE technology, and solutions based on the technology, to system integrators, designers and consultants. Training and installer certification are also part of the mandate. The SDVoE Alliance founding members are AptoVision, Aquantia, Christie Digital, NETGEAR, Sony and ZeeVee. All interested parties are invited to join the alliance and work toward its goals. For more information, visit sdvoe.org and follow us on Twitter @SDVoE.
